Plot
Two teenagers are sent into a remote prison colony in order to retrieve a key. They are helped by an enigmatic young man known only as The Exile who has lived in the colony for years and yet is not known to be a prisoner. As they near the key they are drawn into a battle between good and evil, and must find the key before it falls into the wrong hands.
Development
The Exile has had a long and complicated production. In fact, the script is still being worked on. Writing began in the winter of 2005 and went through several drafts and more than one false start before writer/director Peter James came up with the idea to create a trailer for the feature length script. Transforming the screenplay into a trailer was a difficult task, and in the end it was decided that the best course of action was to abridge several key scenes in order to convey a better understanding of the plot and characters.
The final script for the trailer mixed elements of a short film alongside the conventional trailer format, resulting in a piece that was more than twice as long as the average movie trailer.
Filming
Shooting took place in October and November of 2008 at Kingsdale Farm, a location that would feature again in Spirit’s Requiem.
Further Development
There were many rough aspects to the trailer, primarily because it was the first film ever made by Basis Productions. One year after completing the trailer it was revisited and recut to improve upon the rough edges. The recut resulted in a more conventional trailer, leaving out much of the short film influence of the original.

seriously, no thanks to Anna Myers? Really? Not even an EP credit?? I changed diapers. Ones with poo. I lent you my husband on days when we regularly should have been frolicking through meadows. I entrusted you with mechanical equipment that we will forever be in debt for. But mostly it’s the poo. Whatever.
Posted by Anna | May 19, 2011, 9:03 pmApologies, but the only way to gain special thanks is to do something constructive towards the movie. Like bake cookies. Diapers don’t count, no matter how dirty. Now let’s never speak of this again.
